grade 4

Mrs. Lisa Jones, Teacher

Things to Look Out For Each Week:

Read at least 10 minutes each evening.  If possible, listen to your child read and ask him/her questions about what is being read.  Comprehension is so important!!!  I am finding that my students can read well, but often cannot remember or understand what they have read!!  Reading without comprehension is NOT reading!!!!

All students are to read at least one book each month beginning in February.  They are then to take an Accelerated Reader test on the book.  If they do not do well on that test, they will then be asked to fill out a book report sheet for a "test" grade on that book.  Since this may occur at different times during the month for each student, look for that homework assignment in your child's homework book.  They will have one week in which to fill out the book report sheet and return it.  Since they have a week to do it, it should be done with minimal (if any) spelling, grammatical, or punctuation errors!!!!

Study all multiplication facts each night.  All students in 4th grade should know all facts from the one times table through the twelve times table.  Study nightly.  Writing them is an excellent way to study.

REMEMBER:

**Wear your auction shirts on Wednesdays**

**Get Wednesday folder signed each Wednesday and return it to school by Friday**

**Check your child's homework book daily for notes that I may have written that need to be signed and/or for any specific assignment for your child.***

ALL FOURTH GRADERS NEED TO MEMORIZE THEIR ADDITION FACTS, SUBTRACTION FACTS, MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION FACTS.  YOU CAN MAKE FLASH CARDS OR BUY THEM FROM THE DOLLAR STORE OR ANY DRUG STORE/DEPARTMENT STORE.  MAKE THIS A PART OF YOUR DAILY ROUTINE--GO OVER THE FACTS WITH YOUR CHILD. DO IT IN THE CAR ON THE RIDE TO AND FROM SCHOOL.  SPEND A FEW MINUTES EACH DAY GOING OVER THE FACTS WITH YOUR CHILD.

Look for ways to improve your grades by making corrections on any paper in your Wed. folder that says to "correct and return."   Make corrections and bring the paper back in to me and I will change the grade to a better grade if you do well on the corrections!!
